Lodge History

The first meeting of the founders of the Lodge was back in March 1970. It was held at The Bold Foresters Pub at Sarisbury Green. Like many new Lodges in those days it was formed by a group of like minded men who were in similar profession. Many if not all of our founders were engineers of one sort or another and had a common project they were all connected to, that was the worlds first supersonic airliner ‘Concord’.
The actual date the warrant was issued was 10th June 1970.
The Consecration ceremony was held on Weds 30th September at 3.00pm (being held at Masonic Hall, Lake Road, Portsmouth). This Consecration ceremony was conducted by R.W Bro Major General R. L. Bond C.B., C.B.E., D.S.O., M.C., Hon. F.R.A.M Provisional Grand Master, Hampshire and Isle of Wight. He was assisted by a provisional team inclusive of the D.P.G.M, 3 x A.P.G.M.’s and other Provisional Grand Officers.
At this first meeting the following appointments were made;
- Bro. P.O’Brien as the WM Designate
- Bro. W. G. H. Bell as the S.W. Designate
- Bro. B. B. Davies as the JW Designate
The second meeting of the lodge was held the following October at its present permanent home ‘Brook House’ in Botley and has met there ever since.
Since those early days the lodge has thrived and today we can boast of a membership of 35 plus and new candidates waiting to join us.
